Outdoor Surface Application & Joint Filling Recommendations

  1. Application

The material to be applied shall be stacked on a level surface with a maximum of 2 pallets on top of each other until the end of the installation process, and shall be covered with a waterproof material that provides adequate ventilation. The contractor shall ensure that the material stored at the construction site is protected from various damages, dust, dirt, chemicals, and other harmful substances. Damaged and defective materials shall be replaced by the contractor at no additional cost to the employer. Before the flooring coating is manufactured, the existing concrete floor surface will be swept and then cleaned by washing with pressurized water washing machines, and a minimum 3 cm thick leveling layer (1m³ washed and screened sand + 500kg cement + 0.290m³ water) will be spread on top. After the leveling layer manufacturing process is completed, the surface will be cleaned again to remove dust, dirt, etc. During the terrazzo tile application process and for 48 hours after application, the ambient temperature must not fall below +5º C.

  2. Flooring
TS EN 197-1 PO 42.5 Portland Cement, TS 706 EN 12620/AC, TS 2717 EN 13139 washed and sieved natural sand, TS 266 clean and free from harmful substances water mixture will be used for mortar preparation. The mixture will be mixed with a mortar mixing machine with vertical mixer. The resulting 300 - 350 doses of slightly moistened mortar will be laid on the leveled ground with a minimum of 2.50 cm and a maximum of 4.00 cm and leveled with a trowel. During this process, the grout consisting of cement - water mixture will be poured on the mortar and leveled with a trowel.
  3. Installation
Terrazzo tiles should be laid on the screed without delay and compacted using rubber-tipped mallets. The recommended 3mm joint between tiles must be formed evenly. The surface of the installed tiles should be cleaned of any remaining cement and mortar residue using a damp cloth or brushes. It is recommended that the products in the installed area be soaked for 4 days and covered with nylon to cure, depending on weather conditions.
  4. Grout Filling

After installation is complete, wait 2-4 days, depending on weather conditions, for the installation mortar to dry. Since the surface finish of floor tiles is brushed and sanded, the recommended 3 mm grout joints should be thoroughly filled using cartridges or granite dust as grout filling material. After the process is complete, any joint filler material that has gotten on the surface should be cleaned immediately. Areas where joint filling has been performed will be covered with nylon after final cleaning and protected until delivery. For joint filling on sanded and brushed surfaces, please contact Topaz.
